Revolution drop points again, lose against last place Colorado Rapids
FOXBOROUGH, MA– The New England Revolution (13-9-6, 48 pts.) were defeated 2-1 draw in a b versus Colorado Rapids (4-10-13, 22 pts.) in a match on Saturday night.
The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET at DSG Park in Commerce City, Colorado to a crowd of 16,411.

The team started their lineup in a 4-3-3 formation with Earl Edwards Jr. starting in net with a backline of (left back) DeJuan Jones, (center backs) Dave Romney, and Omar Gonzalez, along with (right back) Andrew Farrell. The midfield spots were manned by Ian Harkes (left midfield), Mark-Anthony Kaye (right midfield), and Carles Gil (central attacking midfield). The forward roles were manned by Tomás Chancalay (left wing), Nacho Gil (right wing), and Giacomo Vrioni as the lone striker.
Midfielder Matt Polster is unavailable for tonight’s match due to yellow card accumulation.
Saturday was Revolution interim Head Coach Clint Peay and assistant coach Marcelo Santos’ MLS coaching debuts.

The match began with New England starting from the center circle. Giacomo Vrioni played the ball backwards to Mark-Anthony who elected to build out of the back with New England.
New England’s first chance of the match came in the 5th minute when midfielder Carles Gil’s freekick found the open head of Mark-Anthony Kaye, whose header struck the crossbar and went out for a goalkick.
Entering the 7th minute, Revolution defender Omar Gonzalez was issued a yellow card for a foul on #9 Rafael Navarro.
Colorado’s first chance of the match came in the 17th minute when Colorado’s #91 Kevin Cabral drove down the left flank, cut inside and took a right-footed shot that went just wide of the right post.
New England had yet another chance in the 24th minute when Ian Harkes’ long-range effort was met with a save by #1 Marko Ilić.
In the 40th minute, Colorado Rapids #9 Rafael Navarro was issued a yellow card for a late challenge on Ian Harkes.
In the 45th minute, Colorado Rapids #91 Kevin Cabral was issued a yellow card for a challenge on Carles Gil.
The last moment of the first half came when Carles Gil’s freekick as time expired just missed the top right corner of the net.

The second half of the match began with Colorado starting from the center circle. #14 Calvin Harris played the ball backwards to #5 Andreas Maxsø who elected to launch the ball up the field for a 50/50 ball.
In the 48th minute, Colorado gained the early 1-0 advantage.

Following a freekick taken by #20 Conor Ronan, his delivery found #23 Cole Bassett inside the box for a header past Revolution goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr. This is Bassett’s 3rd goal of the season.
Entering the 49th minute, Revolution midfielder Carles Gil was issued a yellow card for arguing with the center official.
Colorado continued their offensive threat when #14 Calvin Harris’ right footed shot was comfortably saved by Revolution goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr.
New England’s first chance of the second half came when Nacho Gil’s close-range right-footed shot inside the 6-yard box went just wide of the left post.
Entering the 59th minute, Revolution midfielder Ian Harkes was issued a yellow card for a foul on #9 Rafael Navarro.

After a long-range cross field pass by #9 Rafael Navarro found #14 Calvin Harris who cut on DeJuan Jones and finessed the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal past Earl Edwards Jr. This is Harris’ 1st goal of the season.
In the 63rd minute, Revolution interim Head Coach Clint Peay made his first and second changes of the match by replacing forward Tomás Chancalay and midfielder Ian Harkes and replacing them with midfielder Noel Buck and forward Esmir Bajraktarević.
Colorado had yet another chance in the 68th minute when #13 Andre Gutman’s right footed effort was met with a save by Earl Edwards Jr.
In the 72nd minute, Colorado Rapids #11 Diego Rubio was issued a yellow card for a challenge on Nacho Gil.
Entering the 75th minute, Nacho Gil had a fantastic chance after Carles Gil’s corner kick delivery which was met by a fantastic low save by goalkeeper #1 Marko Ilić.
In the 77th minute, Revolution interim Head Coach Clint Peay made his third and fourth changes of the match by replacing forwards Nacho Gil and Giacomo Vrioni and replacing them with Damian Rivera and Bobby Wood.
In the 84th minute, Colorado Rapids #28 Sam Nicholson was issued a yellow card for a challenge on Carles Gil.
In the 86th minute, Revolution interim Head Coach Clint Peay made his fifth and final change of the match by substituting defender Andrew Farrell and replacing him with defender Ben Sweat.

Following a corner kick delivery by Carles Gil, the ball found Omar Gonzalez get past Diego Rubio for the clear header at point-blank range for the goal past #1 Marko Ilić. The goal is Omar’s first of the season.
