Colorado Rapids 2-1 New England Revolution

COMMERCE CITY, CO–Two teams dealing with a lot of drama met at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. New England came into this match second in the East, but dealing with a lot of drama over the situation involving Bruce Arena and subsequent drama including the players refusing to train at one point and ending up with Revolution 2’s Clint Peay becoming interim coach. The Rapids entered as the worst team in MLS and fans from the Centennial 38 Supporters Group issuing an open letter over the lack of investment into the club from owners KSE Group.

On the pitch, the Rapids picked up just their fourth win of the season with a  2-1 decision over New England Revolution. Cole Bassett headed in a free kick from Connor Ronan in the 48th minute to give the Rapids the lead. Calvin Harris added a second in the 62nd minute after turning DeJuan Jones in the area and then beating Earl Edwards Jr. far post. New England had 17 shots on the night, six on target, but only a late header from Omar Gonzalez off a corner in stoppage time would find the net.

It is the first win for Chris Little in charge of the Rapids, though the only race they might be in is to avoid the wooden spoon vs. Toronto FC. New England drop to third in the East with Philadelphia, Columbus, and Atlanta all within three points of them.
