Report: Spurs sign Chimezie Metu to rookie deal
Per Shams Charania, the Spurs have inked the 2018 second-round pick to a three-year rookie contract.
The Spurs have reportedly signed the 49th overall pick in this year’s draft, Chimezie Metu, to a three-year rookie deal. The Athletic’s Shams Charania broke the news on Thursday morning:
Sources: The San Antonio Spurs and second-round pick Chimezie Metu have agreed on a three-year rookie deal. Team is high on the former USC standout.

Metu appeared in five combined Summer League games before sustaining a wrist injury, averaging 11.4 points and 7.6 rebounds over that stretch. As Charania notes, that appears to have been enough for the Spurs to see something special in the 6’10” USC big man.
With Quincy Pondexter’s deal only partially guaranteed, Metu’s signing will push the Spurs’ roster to 14 guaranteed contracts as we approach training camp for the 2018-19 season.
