Thunder star Jalen Williams ready to foot bill for all 3 Williamses after technical fouls

The Oklahoma City Thunder began their 2026-27 NBA season with a 116-104 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night, but the action was not limited to the scoreboard, as a heated confrontation led to technical fouls for three players sharing the Williams surname: Jalen Williams, Jaylin Williams and Kenrich Williams.

The altercation occurred early in the second quarter when San Antonio guard De’Aaron Fox received a Flagrant 1 foul for throwing Chet Holmgren to the floor during a play in the paint. Oklahoma City players immediately confronted Fox, while Victor Wembanyama intervened on the Spurs guard’s behalf. Jaylin and Wembanyama had to be separated after exchanging pushes.

Following a review, officials assessed technical fouls to Wembanyama and all three Williams players.

“Just be there for my teammate. That’s it,” Jalen said postgame.

When asked to elaborate he continued:

“I didn’t really like the play,” said Williams. “I just ran in there. If anybody’s ever been in a scuffle, there’s really not a lot of thinking to it. It’s just, make sure I have my guys back in there. In NBA scuffles, just grab whoever’s close and just push. Cost me $2,500, though.”

“It’s the first ever Williams, Williams, Williams T’d up. Happy to be a part of it.”

Jalen also revealed he’ll cover the financial penalties for himself, Jaylin and Kenrich.

The Thunder responded to the confrontation with a 9-0 scoring run, with Jalen and Kenrich contributing five points combined. Oklahoma City subsequently added another 13 consecutive points, with Cason Wallace connecting from three-point range to extend the advantage to 59-33.

The hosts entered halftime ahead 65-44 after outscoring San Antonio 31-16 in the second quarter. However, the Spurs opened the second half with a 23-9 run, cutting a deficit that had reached 26 points to single digits. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jared McCain combined for 25 points after halftime to help the Thunder preserve the victory.

Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 32 points, while McCain contributed 20 on 6-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc. Holmgren recorded 14 points, seven rebounds and four blocks, helping limit Wembanyama to 12 points on 1-of-13 shooting. The 22-year-old missed his first 12 attempts before making his only field goal on an alley-oop from Fox at the end of the third quarter.

The win was Oklahoma City’s response to their previous meeting with San Antonio, which defeated the Thunder 111-103 in Game 7 of last season’s Western Conference Finals.

The Thunder will next host the Denver Nuggets on Thursday.
