The Golden State Warriors are just hours away from kicking off their 2026-27 NBA season on Wednesday night vs the Los Angeles Lakers on the road. The Warriors will be without several key players in this one, including Jimmy Butler, who will miss a good chunk of this season as he recovers from a torn ACL he suffered a year ago.
Recently, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr gave the latest update on Butler’s recovery process.
“He’s doing great. I just talked to him this morning. He was in our weight room. He looks good. He feels good,” he said, per Logan Murdock of The Ringer.
Kerr also spoke on the mentality that Butler brings to the Warriors when he’s on the floor.
“He just has this aura about him, and it’s a very unique trait. Michael Jordan had it, Kobe had it. I’m not just talking about physical dominance or skill dominance or how many points you score. I’m talking about an emotional hold on a game where everybody in the gym knows you’re the man,” he said.
Indeed, Butler has long been known for his strong personality both on and off the court, which has at times rubbed fans and teammates the wrong way, but has also yielded impressive results, with Butler dragging the Miami Heat to two NBA Finals appearances during his tenure there before burning that bridge.
The Warriors’ tandem of Butler and Stephen Curry looked quite impressive during their brief time together dating back to 2025’s trade with Miami, but unfortunately, injuries have derailed any chances of postseason success with the two so far.
In any case, the Warriors and Lakers are set to tip off on Wednesday at 10:00 pm ET from Los Angeles.
