Texas Workforce Commission hiring for temporary positions in San Antonio during pandemic

The Texas Workforce Commission is hiring in cities across the state, including San Antonio.

The commission, which is the state agency in charge of administering unemployment benefits, is experiencing an overwhelming amount of claims during coronvirus-related layoffs. The agency is in search of help to handle the wave and is offering temporary customer service representative positions in San Antonio.

“While many businesses have had to close their doors, TWC is in need of extra help,” the agency’s website reads.

Jobs are also available in El Paso, Fort Worth and McAllen.

The employees, which are described online as emergency, temporary workers, will be tasked with providing service support and receiving and responding to questions regarding the unemployment insurance program available to Texans affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The positions will be filled immediately and are expected to last one to three months and may be extended. Hired employees will report to the San Antonio office and will not be able to work from home, the job description says.

According to the listing, the salary for the temporary positions is $2,455 per month. Some of the hires may be able to transition into regular probationary employment status after the emergency period, the website says.

The agency has received more than 600,000 first-time unemployment claims since the start of coronavirus-related shutdowns, according to the Houston Chronicle.
