Texas county penalizing residents with $1,000 fine if caught without face mask

Willacy County Judge Aurelio Guerra issued an order on Tuesday that will penalize any resident if they are caught without something covering their face while in a public building.
According to the order, all persons over the age of 5 are required to wear some form of covering over their nose and mouth at all times when entering a building such as a grocery store, pharmacy or convenience store. A person can be fined up to $1,000.

Judge Guerra added to the order that no more than two adults per vehicle will be allowed in the county. A fine up to $1,000 will also be issued if violated.
The new regulations go into effect April 8 at 5 a.m. and will last until the shelter-in-place order ends on April 30. As of Tuesday, Willacy County, which includes cities such as Raymondville and Port Mansfield, has five positive cases of COVID-19.
In San Antonio, Mayor Ron Nirenberg issued an advisory on Tuesday that recommends anyone over the age of 5 to wear a mask made of cloth in public. No fine or penalty will be issued if caught without one.
