San Antonio police are searching for the driver of a tractor-trailer who was involved in a fatal traffic accident Monday night on the East Side.

Police said the unidentified victim was driving a 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the eastbound lane near the 8200 block of Interstate 10 East at around 7:30 p.m. Witnesses said traffic was still fairly heavy at the time and traffic in the eastbound lanes had started to slow down.

At that time, a 2007 Freightliner with an attached flatbed trailer was traveling too fast for the amount of traffic on the roadway, SAPD said. The truck attempted to brake but hit the victim’s motorcycle before jackknifing in the roadway, blocking all lanes of traffic.

The motorcycle and three other vehicles ahead of the truck were all involved in the accident, including a Jeep Cherokee that rolled over, injuring those inside.

The driver of the Freightliner ran from the scene without stopping to provide information or help the other vehicles involved, police said.

The victim on the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene by the San Antonio Fire Department.  The other victims were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

SAPD said the driver will face charges for failure to stop and render aid-resulting in death and multiple charges of failure to stop and render aid-moving.
