BCSO: Inmate accused of murder dies after suicide attempt

An inmate died at the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office detention center early Tuesday morning after a suicide attempt, the department said.

The unidentified 20-year-old man was found by detention deputies around 6 a.m. attempting to commit suicide in his cell by hanging himself, the Sheriff’s office said. Deputies began to perform life-saving measures before medical staff arrived.

The inmate was transported to Baptist Hospital by the San Antonio Fire Department, but he died just after 7 a.m.

The inmate was charged with capital murder, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and assault.

The BCSO Criminal Investigation Division, Internal Affairs and the Public Integrity Unit are conducting an investigation into the death per protocol, the department said. Converse Police and the Texas Commission on Jail Standards were also both notified per standard procedure.
