Open Thread: Spurs drop the SEGABABA at Staples Center
Inability to close out games on the road puts the Spurs playoff hopes in peril.
Wow. I honestly wouldn’t believe it if I weren’t up past midnight watching it happen. And it’s not just this one game or this road trip. Game after game, our boys have dropped leads heading into the final quarter only to come up short.
What could have been a redefining road trip that solidified a playoff berth as well as shaking off the asphalt from their backsides turned into what could lead to another drop in the Western Conference standings. With an identical record to the Oklahoma City Thunder and two teams that could have matching records by the end of this evening, how long the Spurs maintain the 5th seed has yet to be determined.

Today
The positive is that there are head-to-head match-ups meaning someone has to lose.
Rockets host the Trail Blazers at 7:00 p.m. Not much to see here. Rockets have secured home court throughout the playoffs and Portland’s hold on 3rd is just about out of reach for the Spurs.
At 8:00, the Jazz host the Clippers. A Clippers win brings the Jazz down to the Spurs level. A Jazz win puts the Clippers one more step to elimination.
And at 9:30, the Denver Nuggets host the Timberwolves. Same scenario. A Denver win gives the Spurs some breathing room in the 4-8 seed logjam, a Timberwolves win puts Denver closer to vacation.
If the Jazz lose and the Timberwolves win there will be a four-way tie at 45-34 between them both along with the Thunder and the Spurs. It’s getting tight!
Tomorrow
Spurs will spend both today and Friday watching games to see their fate and waiting to host the Portland Trail Blazers at the AT&T Center on Saturday. Can’t wait to see where these guys land in the standings before they even suit up again.
But for now, the Spurs are in 5th.
