Man shot, killed outside illegal gambling location in San Antonio

A man was shot and killed outside a home being used as an illegal gambling location on San Antonio’s Southwest Side on Thursday, January 26, according to the San Antonio Police Department. Officials said the man fatally shot was in his 30s.

The shooting occurred just before 10:30 p.m. in the 5500 block of Hayden Drive, not far from Old Pearsall Road, Five Palms Drive and Ray Ellison Boulevard. Officers arrived at the location and found several eight-liner machines inside the home, according to police.

SAPD said that officers arrived and found a man with a gunshot wound to his head and stomach. Paramedics tried life-saving procedures but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the police. Officials did not reveal the identity of the man who was fatally shot.

Three people, including the suspected shooter, fled the location in a white Volkswagen Jetta, according to SAPD. Police apprehended the driver of the Jetta on Loop 410 and Old Pearsall Road. The other two suspects, including the suspected shooter, have not been located, police said.

Investigators said that they believe there was some type of fight before the deadly shooting. However, they have not released word on what started the fight.

The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department, and EMS responded to the fatal shooting. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, according to the police.
