Guadalupe County reports first case of COVID-19, Boerne confirms second case

Guadalupe County officials declared a local state of emergency and confirmed the county’s first case of COVID-19 on Friday.

Guadalupe County Judge Kyle Kutscher said the coronavirus case was the result of exposure through travel, as opposed to community spread.

Local officials were informed of the first case in the county by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

“As the news of this case is dispersed, please remember the precautions in place and continue to use social distancing as our best defense against the spread of COVID-19,” Kutscher wrote.

The judge declared a local state of disaster and public health emergency, which will last seven days unless renewed.

The declaration activates the county emergency management plan and authorizes Guadalupe County authorities to take any actions necessary to promote health and suppress disease.

In Kendall County, the city of Boerne reported its second case of COVID-19.

Local officials were notified Friday of the positive test.

Kendall County emergency operations officials said they had made repeated requests for information about both cases — including how the individuals contracted the virus — but were unsure when state health officials would provide answers.
