Elon Musk teases Cybertruck once again with prank crash test video

The Cybertruck was announced what feels like 100 years ago, but the truth is you’ve never seen one on the street. That’s because massive and numerous delays have pushed the release of the still-rendering-looking, silver vehicle back and back and back. Mass production aren’t expected to really begin until 2024.

Over the weekend, Tesla teased the release of its truck seemingly designed using the Tomb Raider engine with a crash test video.

Take a look at the date after realizing the truck never hits the wall in the video. Very epic prank, sir.

The following day, fresh off a rousing day of April Fools pranks, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced he spent a large chunk of his day in Austin, patrolling the production line at Giga Texas, the flagship production factory for his automobiles.

As usual, Musk’s anarchic and contradictory communication style belies anything of substance here.

In showing just a portion of the crash test, we’re left to wonder if the Cybertruck is anywhere closer than when we last heard from Musk about the thing at the end of January, when it was revealed that though production begins this year, you know, things take time. Was there a real crash test? Is it even ready for one?

In Musk immediately lauding the Cybertruck production line, saying it “feels like the future,” he’s vaguely acknowledging the existence of said production line before kicking the can down the road once more.

Both dispatches from Tesla and its CEO seem to exist as reminders that the Cybertruck exists and that, no, you cannot have one yet, and probably not for a long time. Once again, it’s all hat, no cattle, from the man who would be Texan.

Ultimately, what I mean is this: let us see the thing explode. We all need the release.
