Wednesday’s Uvalde City Council saw a heated session of public input from residents asking for more police accountability. It also attracted a known January 6 rioter who smoked marijuana in the Congress buildings and was later turned in because he bragged about it.

Daniel Warmus, who took a plea deal for unlawful parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building in May, was at the meeting on Wednesday, August 10, asking for accountability from the local police over the May 24 mass shooting at Robb Elementary School, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

He originally signed in as “Dan, Erie County,” according to the Express-News, but later gave his full name. Warmus is from Alden, New York.

Federal authorities were tipped off to Warmus after he bragged about his involvement in the Capitol riot at a dentist’s office on January 12, 2021.

Calls for police accountability in Uvalde are not without merit after multiple reports and video showed a lack of urgency or leadership. However, Warmus has been known to post videos on YouTube confronting officers and public servants as a self-described “journalist” and “First Amendment auditor.”

Warmus films himself going into government buildings “to test government workers’ knowledge of personal rights,” Buffalo station WIVB reported in May. The auditors make money through clicks and views on YouTube, but Warmus didn’t tell WIVB how much money he makes.
