Update: 3 p.m., Friday, August 12: In a updated social media post, the City of Boerne announced that the I-10 construction has been postponed by TxDOT and the contractor. Drivers no longer need to be concerned about lanes being consolidated into one-lane this weekend.

The post says the construction will be rescheduled for a later date and will be shared when it becomes available.

Construction on Interstate 10 in the Hill Country will shift drivers around for road work this weekend. Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, August 12, the main lanes of I-10 in Boerne will shift a part of the highway to one lane, according to a news release.

The realignment will put the eastbound lanes back into their normal flow and move the westbound lanes south of their current lane. The construction is expected to be finished by 5 a.m. on Monday, August 15, according to the release. The timeline could be effected by weather in the area.

Construction will shut down the main lanes of I-10. Eastbound and westbound traffic on the highway will be forced into one lane in their respective directions, according to the release. Traffic will go through the intersection of frontage road before being put back on the highway.

The Highway 46 bridge over I-10 will be closed during realignment. Traffic will be forced to the frontage road. “Off-duty uniformed” police will be directing traffic. The city is asking drivers to avoid the area during the closure and plan to spend extra time driving if drivers have to head through Boerne, according to the release.

TxDOT’s I-10 Kendall extension is scheduled to “last into 2022,” with the two main points of work in Boerne at the intersections of I-10 and Highway 87 and I-10 and Highway 46.
