VJ Edgecombe had jokes to share after having a collision with LeBron James following the Philadelphia 76ers’ home opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night.
Edgecombe started the sophomore campaign of his NBA career with the 76ers. This also marks his first year playing alongside James, getting to compete for a championship with the veteran superstar.
However, the home opener had an accidental moment between the two. To start the sequence, Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen missed a free throw with four minutes left in the third quarter.
Cleveland guard Donovan Mitchell initially pushed James from behind in the battle for the board, leading to a loose ball foul call. As James went up in the air, his left arm connected with Edgecombe’s nose.
Edgecombe reflected on the events after the game, per reporter Kris Rhim. The sophomore guard assured he will be fine, but he ended his response with a joke about James helping him if the worst case occurred.
“Thank God there’s nothing bad, but if it was, he could buy me a new nose,” Edgecombe said.
