Pre-game demonstrations, a heartfelt moment, and a cause that brought many together at one Sunday afternoon sporting event.
Patty Mills bobble head night, which evolved into Indigenous Night with the addition of his clothing line, is the first celebration by the NBA of Native American culture. Mills addressed the crowd prior to the tip off.

Before the doors to the AT&T center even opened, the Tap Pilam Coahuiltecan Nation, American Indians native to San Antonio. exhibited their culture in the Bud Light Courtyard.

During the game, R.C. Buford presented a $10,000 check from Spurs Sports & Entertainment and Aramark to American Indians in Texas at the Spanish Colonial Missions.
Anyone interested in learning more about local Indian culture can attend the 21st Annual United San Antonio Pow Wow on February 15 and 16. Information can be found for the free event at AITSCM.org
And if you were unable to attend the game and grab yourself a shirt, hat or sweatshirt, the clothing line will be available online and at La Cantera.

In a time when Americans are more polarized politically than ever, and anger and hate against minorities seem to cause deeper divisions between the America First movement and universal humanitarian goodwill, it’s good to know Patty is speaking out for all people. Not just his people. Not just people from one region. And not just people who are ostracized outside our borders. Patty’s a true humanitarian, bringing awareness at every level.
