Why signing Odell Beckham Jr. is the right gamble for Cowboys

Sign Odell Beckham Jr., Dallas, and your Super Bowl dreams can come true.

The Cowboys are interested in acquiring Beckham Jr., per NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

Signing Beckham Jr. carries risk because he’s recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered in Super Bowl LVI, but it’s a gamble that improves the Cowboys’ championship chances.

Dallas (6-2) will probably make the playoffs thanks to the No. 3 scoring defense in the league, but its passing game needs juice. Quarterback Dak Prescott, who missed five games with a thumb injury, has surpassed the league average for passing yards once in his three starts.

The Cowboys traded wideout Amari Cooper in the offseason, impacting Prescott and the passing game. Beckham Jr. can fill the void Cooper left.

He’s a three-time Pro Bowler and was excellent in the playoffs last season. During the 2021 postseason, Beckham was fifth in receiving yards among all receivers and helped the Rams win the Super Bowl.

The addition of a dynamic playmaker could be crucial in the NFC East, which has the league’s best record for a division (24-9).

The third-place Giants (6-2) are nipping at the Cowboys’ heels. The first-place Eagles (8-0) are the league’s sole unbeaten team. The addition of an experienced, elite player can help the Cowboys develop an edge.

The Rams used the same blueprint during their championship run last season. After they signed Beckham Jr., they defeated their divisional rivals, the Cardinals and 49ers, in the playoffs.

If the Cowboys want a similar result, they should follow the same model.
