Why Christian Pulisic missed Chelsea’s win over Sheffield United/ Tuchel provides Thiago Silva update

Chelsea see off Sheffield United

The weekend’s Premier League action drew to a close a short time ago.

The final tie of the week saw Chelsea face a trip to Bramall Lane, as the Blues aimed to continue their fine form under Thomas Tuchel.

Before Sunday, Chelsea had picked up seven points from a possible nine under the German, keeping clean sheets in all three ties.

And, when all was said and done this evening, the Londoners’ solid run of form continued.

Timo Werner picked out Mason Mount to fire Chelsea into the lead just before the break.

A mix-up at the back between Antonio Rudiger and Edouard Mendy, however, saw Sheffield United back on level terms 54 minutes in:

Chelsea now sit 5th in the Premier League table, just one point adrift of Liverpool, and four points off Leicester City.

Why Christian Pulisic missed out vs Sheffield United

Following his side’s latest win, Thomas Tuchel provided an explanation for Christian Pulisic’s absence on Sunday.

The American was completely omitted from the Blues’ matchday squad, which came as something of a surprise after no injury issues were reported prior to the game.

But, speaking post-match, Tuchel confirmed that Pulisic was left out due to personal reasons.

The German also spoke about Thiago Silva, with the stopper expected to miss at least Chelsea’s next two outings, with a potential return against Southampton on February 20th labelled as ‘ambitious’:
