What’s open and closed on Thanksgiving in San Antonio
It’s finally Thanksgiving on Thursday. Hopefully you don’t plan depositing money while everyone is enjoying lunch or dinner with their families.
As with every Thanksgiving, you may find that some of the basic city, state, federal and private services that we usually take for granted are not open.
Here’s a list of those holiday closures.
- Financial institutions: Closed Thursday
- Schools: Closed Thursday and Friday
- Post offices: Closed Thursday
- City offices: Closed Thursday and Friday
- City-run COVID-19 centers: Closed Thursday
- COVID-19 hotline: Closed Thursday
- Municipal Court: Closed Thursday and Friday
- County offices: Closed Thursday and Friday
- State offices: Closed Thursday and Friday
- Federal offices: Closed Thursday
- CPS Energy: Closed Thursday and Friday (Emergency line number is 210-353-4357)
- SAWS: Closed Thursday and Friday (Emergency line number is 210-704-7297)
- Libraries: Closed Thursday and Friday
- Bulky/hazard waste centers: Closed Thursday
- Brush recycling centers: Closed Thursday
- Garbage, recycling, brush recycling curbside pickup: Closed Thursday pickup will be on Wednesday (Privately-owned trash collection schedules differ.)
- Parking meters: Meters will not operate Thursday and Friday
There will be services that are operating on Thanksgiving like the Magistrate Court and Detention Center.
When it comes to public transportation, VIA Metropolitan Transit routes will operate on a Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving and on a Saturday schedule on Friday. Sunday and Saturday schedules vary by route. Check here by selecting your route from the dropdown menu and downloading the PDF.
