A lot has been made in recent weeks of the relationship between New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and his quarterback Drake Maye, but some of the rumours may have been put to bed after Sunday’s win.

The Patriots finally got back to winning ways to take their record to 2-2, and it was certainly a statement win for Vrabel and Maye as they removed the Buffalo Bills’ unbeaten status.

By no means was it a faultless game from Maye, who was intercepted yet again at the new Highmark Stadium, but it was much improved after he threw for three touchdowns and 269 yards, which certainly pleased his head coach.

Following the win in Buffalo, a brief interaction between Vrabel and Maye was caught by the NFL Films team as they showcased what they captured during Week Four’s Mic’d Up efforts.

It has been a really difficult start to the 2026 season for Maye, who has been a turnover machine through the opening four weeks. There is, however, some light at the end of the tunnel as he was able to pull things around in Buffalo.

“Great job, buddy! Proud of you, man! Proud of you… hey, we ain’t [done] yet. We ain’t [done] yet!” said Vrabel to Maye as the head coach waited for his players to return to the locker room following the win.

On top of his improved passing stats, Maye actually led the Patriots’ rushing stats on Sunday. Maye racked up 54 yards from eight carries, while his two running backs gained 47 and 42 yards respectively.

There is an interesting matchup for the Patriots next, as they host the Las Vegas Raiders on the back of their first defeat of the season at the weekend. Under Klint Kubiak, the Raiders look the real deal, but this will be a big test of their resilience.

It will also be a test for the Patriots and the team they want to become. Maye needs to show some consistency from now on, but he will face a Raiders defence that has already forced nine turnovers this season.
