What does Donny van de Beek’s Euro 2020 injury means for his Man United future?

Van de Beek to miss Euro 2020

After enduring a miserable season for Manchester United, Donny van de Beek was looking forward to putting all of the disappointments of the year behind him by having a strong European Championship with the Netherlands.

However that has all been wiped away after it was confirmed that the Manchester United midfielder would miss the tournament due to a persistent injury.

No replacement will be called up by Frank de Boer meaning he will be left one short in midfield.

The remaining midfield options for the former Inter Milan coach are Frenkie de Jong (Barcelona), Marten de Roon (Atalanta), Ryan Gravenberch (Ajax), Davy Klaassen (Ajax), Teun Koopmeiners (AZ), Quincy Promes (Spartak Moskva), Jurriën Timber (Ajax) and Georginio Wijnaldum (Liverpool).

What this means for VDB’s United future?

The presence of Bruno Fernandes has been the key reason behind a lack of opportunities for Donny van de Beek.

The former Ajax midfielder has been frustrated by the lack of chances. Some reports have suggested that he could even leave the club this summer.

However without the opportunity to put himself into the shop window and suffering from an injury, this could have a damaging effect on his chances of securing a move for more regular game time.

United, were they open to a sale, would also be affected by the fact that his price would not increase with a strong Euro display.

The future is still very much unknown for Van de Beek.
