Video shows cops stopping parents from entering Uvalde elementary school during shooting

A video circulating on social media appears to show officers stopping parents from rushing into the elementary school where a gunman killed 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde on Tuesday, May 24.

The video posted by TheFamily’sSoup TV on Twitter showed numerous parents confronting the heavily armed officers who set up a perimeter around Robb Elementary. The officers at the scene were ready to use tasers on parents and onlookers.

At the 1:40 mark, the mother of one of the victims, Amerie Jo Garza, was seen as one of the parents asking the cops to help the students. She was seen wearing ripped jeans and a T-shirt that she wore in a recently shared picture with her daughter. The video shared online has raised some frustration among parents and family members who were seen yelling and screaming at the heavily armed officers standing outside the building, demanding they do more.

Officials say the shooter “encountered” a school district security officer outside the school, though there were conflicting reports from authorities on whether the men exchanged gunfire. After running inside, he fired on two arriving Uvalde police officers who were outside the building, according to the Associated Press.

After entering the school, the shooter barricaded himself by locking the door and just started shooting children and teachers that were inside that classroom, Lt. Christopher Olivarez of the Department of Public Safety told CNN

Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw told CNN that 40 minutes to an hour elapsed from when Ramos opened fire on the school security officer to when the tactical team shot him, though a department spokesman said later that they could not give a solid estimate of how long the gunman was in the school or when he was killed.

It’s unclear when the video was taken during the day of the mass shooting.
