The 18-wheeler police suspect was involved in a fatal hit-and-run Friday on the North Side was found almost 20 miles from the scene parked on the side of a downtown street, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Police said they have not located the driver, but a passenger of the semi remained where it was found and is cooperating, SAPD spokesman Doug Greene said.

Greene said the semi rear-ended a Ford Fiesta at around 6 a.m. on Interstate 10 near Dominion Drive. The driver of the Fiesta, a 40-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident shutdown a portion of I-10.

After the accident, police asked the public to be on the look out for an 18-wheeler with front end damage.

Almost two hours later, a civilian called 911 saying they had seen a damaged semi parked next to a lot near the intersection of Crockett and Bowie streets in downtown.

SAPD’s EAGLE helicopter has been searching the area, attempting to find the driver.

Police said the driver will face charges of failure to stop and render aid resulting in death.
