TxDOT: Phase II of I-10 Kendall Extension drives forward with major road closures
Sep. 14, 2021
This weekend, Phase II of the I-10 Kendall Extension project will break ground, and that means drivers should plan around closures.
The eastbound I-10 Frontage Road at SH 46 will be inaccessible to drivers for approximately six weeks, beginning Sunday, September 19 at 6 a.m., according to Texas Department of Transportation.
Additional closures throughout this period will occur at the right-turn lane in front of the nearby Whataburger, on approach to the eastbound frontage road, the Whataburger driveway, and Upper Balcones Road at eastbound I-10 Frontage Road.
Drivers are encouraged to use Johns Road as a main detour to access I-10 when traveling east toward San Antonio.
The closures are necessary for the completion of the multi-step project that seeks to complete a new six-lane bridge at this juncture.
Once complete, this phase will allow construction crews to shift traffic onto the portion of the new SH 46 bridge by fall 2021. The $100 million Kendall Country project is currently estimated to be completed by Spring 2022.
