Two-time All-Pro CB Jalen Ramsey has ‘no problem’ moving to safety later in career

Sure, Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey is a ways away from having to make any kind of decision about moving to safety in the latter part of his career. But the 26-year-old revealed this week that, when the time comes, he’s ready to make that move.

“I wouldn’t have no problems moving to safety,” Ramsey told the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” video podcast, via Rams Wire.

As Rams Wire reminds us, Los Angeles moved Ramsey around the defense last season, so a permanent move to safety later in his career doesn’t seem all that farfetched — even though he is currently the best cornerback in the game.

“I love corner right now,” Ramsey said on the podcast. “The corner money’s better. I’m cool where I’m at.”

The late-career move to safety is a commonplace move in the NFL for defensive players looking to extend their careers. Of course, one can’t discuss that move without mentioning Charles Woodson, who had the most success after making that transition.

“I like Charles because even though I say Deion (Sanders)is the best corner to play the game, Charles is the best defensive back to play the game, because he played multiple positions in the secondary,” Ramsey said of the Hall of Famer. “He did a bunch of different stuff and he affected the game in so many different ways. Me coming to L.A., that’s kind of the role that I started to be in.”
