Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to submit their opening offer for Leicester City star James Maddison this week, according to reports.

Ange Postecoglou has targetted the England international as one of his priority targets for the summer transfer window.

And, according to The Telegraph, Spurs will submit their first bid for the midfielder this week as they wish to ‘thrash out a deal’ with Leicester.

However, the Foexes will demand up to £60million for Maddison, the report continues.

Spurs are said to be winning to pay an initial £40million as they look to reach a compromise.

Such compromise will include add-ons and further instalments in order to seal a deal.

It remains to be seen as to whether Tottenham will land the 26-year-old, who has also been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United.

Eddie Howe’s side have agreed a deal to see AC Milan star Sandro Tonalo arrive at St James’ Park this summer, and have since cooled their interest in Maddison.

This has led to Tottenham ‘ramping up negotiations this week’, with their first formal offer imminent.

Postecoglou has already agreed his first deal as Spurs boss, with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario arriving from Empoli for £17million.

Maddison could soon follow him to Tottenham as Spurs prepare their first bid for the midfielder.
