Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Harry Winks has left the club, and will join Leicester City

The midfielder came through the club’s academy system, and spent 21 years with the team working his way up to the senior side, making over 200 appearances in a Spurs shirt.

However, he fell out of favour at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and spent last year on loan at Italian club Sampdoria.

Spurs shared the news in a tweet, adding: ‘Wishing you all the best, Winksy!’

Leicester confirmed their acquisition of Winks on their own Twitter page, noting that it was a three-year deal and subject to EFL approval.

Speaking to LCFC TV, the 27-year-old said: ‘I’m delighted. I’m really excited for the challenge ahead. It’s an amazing club with great history and the facilities are incredible. I’m just so happy to be here and ready to get going.

‘I’m looking forward to getting started, to have a full pre-season with the team and come here early to get ready for the games coming up. It’s going to be an important few weeks to get everyone ready and to push myself getting fit.

‘I’m also looking forward to a new challenge and to challenge myself. Coming to a club like Leicester is the perfect chance to do that.’

Leicester have to try and contend with a season in the Championship, after being relegated at the end of the Premier League season.

In a statement, Spurs said: ‘We have reached agreement with Leicester City for the transfer of Harry Winks.

‘A product of our Academy, Harry progressed through our ranks and was handed his professional debut as an 18-year-old in our 1-0 Europa League group stage win over Partizan Belgrade in November, 2014.

‘In total, Harry made 203 appearances during his time with us, which included standout performances in our games against Real Madrid as we progressed through the 2017/18 Champions League group stage undefeated.

‘Scoring five goals in our colours, the first of which came in his first full league start as we defeated West Ham United 3-2 at White Hart Lane in November, 2016, he captained the side for a Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers in March, 2020.
