Leicester City have confirmed the signing of Conor Coady from Wolves for £7.5million – with an additional £1m if the Foxes gain immediate promotion.

The 30-year-old defender joins the Foxes on a three-year deal after eight seasons at Wolves, though he spent last campaign on loan at Everton

He arrives having made over 300 appearances for Wolves and ten international outings for England.

Everton opted against signing the veteran centre-back for £4.5m at the end of his loan deal and he had his medical with Leicester on Thursday

His new Championship side announced the signing of Harry Winks from Tottenham earlier today, prising away the midfielder after 21 years with Spurs.

Known for his leadership abilities, Coady captained Wolves to consecutive 7th-placed finishes under Nuno Espirito Santo and led the side back into Europe.

He became particularly adept at being the anchor of a back three for the West Midlands side and played in a back four on Merseyside, proving he can play in a range of tactical systems.

At Everton, Coady made 25 appearances, scoring two goals, and excelled in their 1-0 win over Bournemouth on the final day, when they avoided relegation.

But he had not started any of the previous 13 matches when Sean Dyche dropped him to play first Michael Keane and then Yerry Mina.

All the same, he is an impressive addition for a Leicester side who have lost key talent since their relegation – both James Maddison and Youri Tielemans have left the King Power Stadium, but the two signings today prove Leicester can still lure talent.

Speaking with LCFC TV, the St Helens-born defender said: ‘I’m absolutely over the moon. I couldn’t wait to get down here, to obviously see everyone and get everything signed and boxed off.

‘Now I’m here, I’m massively excited. I’ve been massively excited all summer to be fair and it’s something I was desperate to get done.’

On his departure, Wolves’ sporting director Matt Hobbs said: ‘I’d like to place on record our thanks to Conor for the incredible years of service he’s given to the football club – he’s been a brilliant footballer and above all a brilliant person, on and off the pitch.

‘He’s helped drive the club forward as captain, leading us into the Premier League and then European football, and had incredible pride every time he represented Wolves.

‘While this move works for all parties, we’re letting Conor go with a heavy heart. He has given so much to Wolves over the years and will forever be remembered in the club’s proud history.’
