Tom Brady praises ‘unselfish’ Buccaneers receivers: ‘It’s a great luxury for a quarterback’

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have arguably the best receiving group in the NFL, and seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady knows it. 

During his weekly SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio show appearance, Brady praised his receivers in Tampa, calling them “unselfish,” adding the depth at the position is a “luxury” for a quarterback.

“It’s a great luxury for a quarterback,” Brady said, according to JoeBucsFan.com.

“I’m sure it can be frustrating for a receiver,” Brady added. “Because you know most great receivers that I’ve been around want the ball a lot. But our guys are very unselfish. I’d say there’s been times in my career where we’ve been really limited at those positions and you try to force the ball to one particular player. . . Every time the defensive coach calls the defense, he’s trying to take away something. And when you’re limited on skill players, you’re trying to force the ball to one person regardless of the coverage. That’s a bad way to play.”

During Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys, Brady’s leading man was Chris Godwin, who had nine catches for 105 yards and a touchdown. Rob Gronkowski had eight catches for 90 yards and two scores, while Antonio Brown had five catches for 121 yards and a TD.

Mike Evans, meanwhile, had just three catches for 24 yards and Tyler Johnson was targeted just once. Scotty Miller, O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate also played but didn’t see the ball come their way.

With a plethora of options, those numbers will undoubtedly change week to week. Against the Cowboys, it was Brown and Godwin. In Week 2, it could be Evans and Miller.
