LaMelo Ball has only been with the Minnesota Timberwolves for a few months, but he already feels right at home. After making his regular-season home debut in Sunday’s 117-94 win over the Toronto Raptors at Target Center, Ball was asked what the support from Timberwolves fans has meant to him since his arrival.
“I mean, it means a lot. I just love being here. I love doing what I do, playing basketball,” Ball said, via DAZN. “It’s a great group of guys. Minnesota, amazing, so we’re going to keep going.”

Ball had already played in front of the home crowd once in the preseason, but Sunday’s home opener carried a different weight. He made the most of it despite being limited by foul trouble, scoring 15 points in just 16 minutes. He was nearly perfect from deep, knocking down four of his five 3-point attempts.
Anthony Edwards led the way with 26 points in 27 minutes, while Jaden McDaniels added 14 points, six rebounds and three blocks. Rudy Gobert controlled the glass with 13 rebounds as Minnesota won the rebounding battle 49-34.
The Timberwolves were dominant from the start. They held Toronto to 9-of-29 shooting and 1-of-10 from three in the first quarter and led by as many as 32 points. Minnesota shot 56% from the field and 48% from beyond the arc.
The win improved the Timberwolves to 3-0, and they have not been tested yet. Minnesota has won its first three games by 25, 22 and 23 points.
Ball’s arrival is a big reason for the optimism. The Timberwolves acquired him from the Charlotte Hornets in a blockbuster four-team trade in June, sending Naz Reid and a package of draft picks to Charlotte. Minnesota also landed Josh Green in the deal, while Julius Randle was shipped to the Brooklyn Nets.
The move paired Ball with Edwards in one of the most dynamic backcourts in the league. Ball averaged 20.1 points and 7.1 assists in 72 games with Charlotte last season, and he has three years remaining on his five-year, $203.9 million contract.
So far, the fit has looked seamless on the court, and judging by his comments, Ball has quickly embraced his new city as well.
The Timberwolves will look to stay perfect when they visit the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday.
