The very best of the Spurs’ season finale win against the Pistons

The very best of the Spurs’ season finale win against the Pistons

Yesterday is but today’s memory, and tomorrow is today’s dream.

The Spurs delivered a lot of worthy highlights this season despite the usual challenges of injuries, a young team growing together, heightened scrutiny due to a phenom rookie, and the high expectations of a winning organization. Alas, Rome was not built in a day just like NBA dynasties are not constructed in one season.

The win against the Pistons on Sunday in the Spurs’ season finale represented their second win in a row, and fourth in their last seven games. Although the season wore on as the losses piled up, and fans used to the Spurs’ winning ways were hanging onto hopes of a brighter future, this iteration of the Spurs reminded us that they are a tight knit group that take pride in their craft and represented the best of sportsmanship. The solid foundation laid by this team might be forgotten when playoff successes finds the franchise again, but the journey up the mountain was very much appreciated.

Forging ahead, Sandro Mamukelashvii led the team with 18 points and 8 rebounds while Zach Collins and Blake Wesley each contributed 17 points apiece. Eight out of ten Spurs scored in the double digits as the group effort made for an entertaining night.

I apologize, Tre Jones. I was not familiar with your game. Throw it down! The bench mob going nuts is just the infectious sendoff we need to stay excited for next season.

Jones sliced his way through the defense on this play for right-handed, left-sided lay-in. Jones continued his habit of providing solid scoring along with running the offense: he had 6 assists, in line with his season average.

Mamukelashvii brought his lunch pail to work today, working inside for some tough points. The third-year big man brought some toughness and hustle to the front court down the stretch of the season when the Spurs needed him most.

Blake Wesley and Sidy Cissoko collaborated for a thunderous dunk off of Wesley’s quick hands for a steal from the defensive end that jump started this fast break.

Julian Champagnie got in on the action with this circus shot at the rim. Champagnie was also a player of note down the stretch for the Spurs, stepping in admirably and scoring double-digit points in 8 of his last 10 games.

Cissoko was flying high all game. In addition to energy play off the bench, number 25 also racked up 3 steals and 2 blocks on the defensive end.

G.T.L. Gym. Tan. Looking forward to next season! T-shirt time!

If you missed the game because you were too busy counting down the days until the 2024 NBA regular season kicks off, here are the full-game highlights:

Next up, the Spurs head into the offseason and prepare for the NBA Draft, and I hope to see you all in these streets soon. Thank you for reading along and engaging in passionate conversation about our beloved Spurs! Thank you to J.R. Wilco for giving me another season to wax basketball with fellow fans!
