The Jaguars Reportedly Cut A Former First-Round Pick

It remains to be seen if the additions made by the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason will pay off.

But they do have a promising squad, especially at wide receiver.

The Jaguars signed Christian Kirk, who played for the Arizona Cardinals last year.

There’s also Zay Jones, who suited up for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021.

These additions will join their other receivers in Jamal Agnew, Marvin Jones Jr., and Laviska Shenault Jr.

Because of their loaded wideout rotation, the Jaguars had to cut a former first-round pick.

WJXT4 sports anchor Jamal St. Cyr tweeted, “Source: Jaguars cut Wide Receiver Laquon Treadwell. Treadwell had 434 yards receiving for the Jags in 2021.”

Treadwell was selected by the Minnesota Vikings with the 23rd overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

They had high hopes for him after being First-Team All-SEC and Third-Team All-American in his final year at Ole Miss.

However, he only had one catch for 15 yards in nine games played during his rookie year.

He never panned out with the Vikings after having career highs of 302 yards and one touchdown.

The Vikings did not exercise their fifth-year option on him and initially signed with the Atlanta Falcons practice squad.

Eventually, he was elevated to the active roster, wherein he played five games and caught two touchdowns.

Treadwell’s Prospects Are Grim

While his lone season with the Jaguars was the best of his career, it might not be enough to attract attention from other squads.

His chances of landing on a team are narrow, especially when the 2022 NFL Draft had a deep pool at wide receiver.

Therefore, it might take a while before he sees an NFL field again.

For now, his best option is to wait and see if a team signs him.
