Texas man accused of holding Bumble date hostage for five days released from jail

A Houston man has reportedly been released from jail after he was arrested for allegedly holding a woman he met on a dating app hostage for five days. According to Fox 26, Zachary Kent Mills was released from jail on a $50,000 bond.

The woman told police that 21-year-old Mills picked her up from her home on Christmas Eve after the two met on Bumble and took her to his apartment in Spring. Mills reportedly attempted to have sex with the woman immediately and became violent after she denied him.

Court documents said that he physically assaulted her with a closed fist, would bite her face and neck, hit her with a screwdriver and blocked her from leaving his apartment. Police said she was “sexually assaulted multiple times leading to serious bodily injury.”

Mills held the woman captive in his apartment for five days without providing her any food or water, police said. She reportedly escaped when Mills left his home on December 29 to visit his father’s house and contacted the first people she saw for help.

The woman reportedly had severe bruising to both of her eyes, bite marks and cuts to her throat and nose, and severe bruising to the majority of her body.

As part of Mill’s bond conditions, he has been been ordered to stay away from the woman and her family, and must not go within 200 feet of anywhere she lives, works or attends school, according to CBS News. The 21-year-old is also under GPS monitoring and 24/7 house arrest with the exception of court dates.
