Texans to sign veteran DE Jerry Hughes

The Houston Texans are reportedly making a big addition to their defensive line.

Hughes was selected by the Indianapolis Colts as the 31st overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft and spent three seasons with the Colts before suiting up for the Bills for the last nine years. Hughes recorded 62 tackles, 12 quarterback hits and 5.0 sacks over 40 games in Indianapolis and was acquired by Buffalo in April 2013 in exchange for linebacker Kelvin Sheppard.

The 33-year-old posted back-to-back seasons of 10.0 sacks in 2013 and 2014 and the latter of the two was arguably his best NFL campaign to date. In 2014, Hughes registered career highs in tackles (53) and quarterback hits (20), while tying his career high in tackles for loss (13), sacks and forced fumbles (three).

The Sugar Land, TX native posted 18 tackles, seven quarterback hits, three passes defended, two forced fumbles and 2.0 sacks in 2021. Over his 184 regular season game career, Hughes has collected 412 tackles, 129 quarterback hits and 58.0 sacks.
