Texans need to draft an offensive playmaker with their No. 12 draft pick

The Houston Texans have two early picks in the upcoming NFL Draft. They’re expected to select a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick. There is a bigger mystery on what route they will take with the No. 12 pick.

The team should draft a dynamic receiver to add to the offense. With the expected departure of Brandin Cooks, the Texans need to strengthen their receiving corps.

The Texans struggled in the receiving game in 2022, ranking 25th in passing yards (196.7) per game.

Their receivers had bad luck staying on the field. Cooks and Nico Collins missed a combined 11 games. 2022 second-round draft pick John Metchie III was forced to sit out the entire season due to a Leukemia diagnosis.

According to a recent mock draft by Yahoo Sports’ Charles McDonald, Houston will call upon TCU standout Quentin Johnston.

In his junior year, Johnston had 60 receptions, 1,069 receiving yards and six touchdowns. His best game was against Kansas last October. He finished with 206 yards and a touchdown in the 38-31 win.

During the combine on Saturday, Johnston notched a 40.5-inch vertical and a broad jump of 11-foot-2.

There’s also plenty of questions surrounding the offensive line. QB Davis Mills was sacked 31 times in 15 games played.

Texans fans are hoping their team does something to turn things around. They haven’t reached the playoffs since 2019. There’s no question that their offense needs fixing.

Adding Johnston to an offense with a new quarterback and star running back Dameon Pierce could turn the team’s postseason goals into a reality, setting the team up with a dynamic, young offensive core.
