FORECAST HIGHLIGHTS
- AFTERNOONS: Mid 90s, then 80s next Wednesday
- MORNINGS: Low/mid 60s until next Wednesday, then near 60°
- COOL FRONT: Possibly a glancing blow next week
- AURORA: Geomagnetic storm is weakening, so aurora unlikely tonight in South-Central Texas
Expect more of the same until the middle of next week when temperatures improve a bit.
Mornings will remain pleasant in the low/mid 60s, and afternoons will stay in the low to mid 90s through early next week, but temperatures are likely to drop a bit later in the week. By midweek we’re anticipating mornings near 60° and afternoons in the mid/upper 80s. However, there’s still a shot at a better hit from a cool front, which would drop temperatures even more than currently predicted.
Unfortunately, there’s no good sign of rain in the next ten days – sunshine remains the rule.
Will you be able to see the northern lights Friday, October 11?
The geomagnetic storm, which brought us the aurora last night, has significantly weakened so don’t expect the same display tonight. However, these geomagnetic storms can fluctuate quickly, so it’s still worth pointing your camera northward tonight if you’re away from city lights – just in case.

A geomagnetic storm allowed some KSAT viewers to experience a rare weather event Thursday night, October 10.
A strong release of plasma and magnetic energy from the sun — also known as a coronal mass ejection (CME) — made it to Earth on Thursday, October 10.
When CMEs interact with Earth’s atmosphere, a colorful aurora is created, known as the “northern lights” or aurora borealis.
While rarely seen with the naked eye in South-Central Texas, the northern lights is visible through smartphone cameras away from city lights. Smartphone cameras have sensitive equipment that can sometimes see the aurora when our eyes can’t.
Back in May, another geomagnetic storm made the northern lights possible in some parts of South Central Texas and the Hill Country.
KSAT viewers in and around the Hill Country snapped these pictures Thursday night and uploaded them to KSAT Connect.
