A 24-year-old man led deputies on a high-speed chase through the West Side on Tuesday before he was caught, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the area of Pinto Canyon and Silver Pointe, on the far West Side, for an assault in progress just after midnight. When they arrived, they found an injured victim and immediately began searching for the suspect who had fled.

Deputies said they found the vehicle nearby, but the suspect fled again, leading to a vehicle pursuit that reached speeds of up to 100 mph, officials on the scene said.

The crash ended when the suspect crashed into a guard rail and drove through a fence at South Acme and Growdon, near the Kelly Air Force Base flight line. The man attempted to flee on foot but was caught on U.S. 90 after he jumped down a 15-foot ravine next to the highway.

The suspect was taken to the hospital for a head laceration before he was charged with evading arrest and family assault.
