SAPD preparing for Chauvin verdict by increasing police presence in San Antonio

San Antonio will see an increased police presence as the nation awaits hearing the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial.

Last summer, widespread protests followed the death of George Floyd. Many cities are now preparing for the outcome of the trial before the verdict becomes public.

Moments after news broke on Tuesday that the verdict was reached, SAPD confirmed via email that the department’s public safety plan is to bolster police presence. The verdict will be read at 3:30 to 4 p.m. local time.

“As previously stated by Chief McManus, SAPD has been closely monitoring the pending verdict in the Chauvin trial in Minneapolis. In preparation, we have increased officer presence,” SAPD said in a statement.
