SAPD: Driver chased down after 14-year-old girl was struck by truck on South Side

A 14-year-old girl was struck by a pickup truck while lighting fireworks in a South Side street, police said.

Officers were called to the 1100 block of W. Amber St. shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day.

A man driving a pickup truck struck the teenager, then tried to flee the scene. Other people from the party managed to stop the truck farther up W. Amber St. The driver was stabbed, according to police.

The 14-year-old was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

The driver, who was arrested, was also transported to the hospital for his injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
