San Francisco 49ers CEO Gives Honest Revisit Of The Trey Lance Pick

The San Francisco 49ers have a couple of quarterback options

The San Franchise 49ers had three good options at quarterback for their team last season. Unfortunately, none of them could stay healthy by the end of their NFC Championship loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Jimmy Garoppolo signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. But the 49ers still have Trey Lance and Brock Purdy. The 49ers brass recently indicated they want to see more of Purdy as a starter. Their CEO revisited the 49ers trade-up to land Lance.

CEO Jed York spoke with reporters at the League Annual Meeting this week. According to Matt Maiocco  with NBC Sports, York said he has no regrets in making the move to take Lance:

“I wouldn’t change anything that we’ve made about the decision with Trey,” York said. “I think Trey has a chance to be great. But it’s a bonus when you get somebody at the end of the seventh round that ends up coming in and being very impactful for your team.”

Purdy’s injury could have him sitting out the first few weeks of the 2023 regular season. Lance should be able to show he’s progressed in his third NFL season.
