One of the many repercussions of  COVID-19 restrictions are some cancellations of end-of-high school traditions for seniors, like graduation and prom. Depending on how long schools are closed, most will likely be canceled.

San Antonio photographer Andrew Alvarez is hoping to help dull the pain of losing a special memory like prom by offering free photos. Alvarez said he and his wife, Rachel Alvarez, came up with the idea together as they started seeing schools across San Antonio cancel the big dance.

“I just really feel bad for all the seniors that are going to miss their senior prom […] with this virus going around they couldn’t even do something just simple like that,” he said.

The gesture applies to San Antonio high school seniors who have already purchased their prom dress or suits and attend a school that has canceled the event.

Alvarez said he already has 60 students confirmed to shoot as his Facebook post has been shared more than 5,000 times. Most sessions are taking place in the downtown area or at The Pearl.

“Senior prom only happens once in your lifetime so lets cherish these moments while we can,” he said online.
