San Antonio officials announced Wednesday night that the city will be under a curfew for the holiday weekend, in an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus.

In Mayor Ron Nirenberg’s daily address, he said the surge in cases led to the decision, hoping it will help discourage people from socializing outside of their immediate households for Thanksgiving.

“It’s a difficult time. It’s a difficult thing to do, but we’ve got to get through this holiday,” said Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff. “If we don’t get through this holiday, we’re in for a very difficult time in San Antonio.”

Officials said San Antonio reported 1,032 new cases on Wednesday.
