San Antonio area upgraded to slight risk for severe thunderstorms and hail on Thursday

The slight risk for severe thunderstorms has been extended to the east of San Antonio, according to the National Weather Service.

The northern parts of San Antonio are still in a slight risk to see strong to severe thunderstorms through around 8 p.m. this Thursday evening.

The highest chance of severe weather with damaging winds and large hail of possibly 2 inches are for areas north of Kerrville, Austin and La Grange.

Tornadoes are not expected as a hazard at this time.

Don’t give up hope for some rain in the San Antonio area just yet.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for areas north of San Antonio including Boerne and the Hill Country until 3 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, strong to severe thunderstorms are possible through the afternoon. NWS adds the best chances are north of San Antonio. That’s because a second disturbance will move into the Hill Country later today, bringing with it a slight risk for severe storms.

Storms could produce up to an inch of hail. Forecasters say hail could be the size of apples. 

Winds could gust up to 70 mph or more. 

According to forecasters, an isolated tornado is also possible.
