SAISD students to get free meals during coronavirus closure
While San Antonio public schools are closed because of the coronavirus pandemic, families can collect free breakfast and lunch for their schoolchildren at eight high schools across the district.
The San Antonio Independent School District is offering curbside pickup of breakfast from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. so students can continue to receive federally funded free meals during the closure.
Students 18 and younger are eligible. The children for whom the meals are intended must be present at time of pickup, SAISD said in a statement Saturday.
The pickup locations are:
Brackenridge High School, 400 Eagleland
Burbank High School, 1002 Edwards
Edison High School, 701 Santa Monica
Fox Tech High School, 637 N. Main
Highlands High School, 3118 Elgin
Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson
Lanier High School, 1514 W. César E. Chávez
Sam Houston High School, 4635 E. Houston.
For more information, contact the district’s child nutrition services department at 210-554-2290.
On Friday, SAISD and other public school districts in Bexar County extended Spring Break by a week, until March 23.
Many SAISD families depend on the free meals their children receive at school. The poverty rate among district families is high enough that all students are offered free breakfast and lunch paid for by the federal government.
