Revolution II Head Coach Clint Peay, Assistant Marcelo Santos elevated to become interim first team Head Coach and Assistant Coach

FOXBOROUGH, MA– The New England Revolution have named Revolution II head coach Clint Peay and assistant Marcelo Santos as the interim Head Coach and Assistant Coach of the New England Revolution first team.

This is Clint Peay’s first time coaching a Major League Soccer team.

Following a statement released last night by the New England Revolution, they have named their second team coach Clint Peay as the Interim Head Coach effective immediately.

This season, the Revolution II stand as the 3rd best team in MLS NEXT Pro with a 14W-8D-5L (56. pts) record with 6 shootout wins.

Peay, 49, began his coaching career as an assistant with the Georgetown Hoyas (2003 – 9W-9L-2D), as an assistant with  Davidson University (2004-2007 – 34W-44L-4D) and then again as an assistant with George Mason (2008-2009 – 24W-14L-3D). His first Head Coaching job came with the Richmond Spiders (2009-2012 – 45W-22L-5D) until their program disbandment in 2012. Following a four-year coaching hiatus, Peay coached for the United States U14 (2016-2018) and U15 (2018) Youth National Teams. He then transitioned to become assistant of North Carolina FC of the USL League One (2018 – 13W-13L-8D). Afterwards, Peay was hired as the inaugural Head Coach of the Revolution II on November 25th, 2019 and has since compiled a 34W-36L-16D record over four seasons with the Revolution II.

Joining Peay in coaching the first team is Marcelo Santos, the current Revolution II assistant coach.

Santos, 43, began his coaching career at Thunder Bay Chill in the USL Premier Development League (2005-2006 – 12W-14L-6D). Shortly after, Santos transitioned to a volunteer assistant and then full-time assistant coach at Marquette University (2008-2018 – 80W-90L-27D) where he most notably won a BIG EAST title in 2013. After Marquette, Santos obtained the Head Coach job for Kokomo Mantis FC of the Premier Development League (2015-2016- 4W-6L-4D). From 2018-2019, Santos joined the Revolution Academy coaching the U17 and U19 sides. He joined the Revolution II in 2020 and has assisted Peay to a 34W-36L-16D record over the four seasons with Revolution II.

Santos has also spent years as a USSF network scout, responsible for identifying and evaluating potential USMNT players in Chicago and Milwaukee.

Santos most recently, in August of 2023, became a citizen of the United States. He originally is from Brazil.

The pair coached the first team for the first time this morning, September 13th, 2023.

The New England Revolution (13-9-5, 48 pts.) head out to Commerce City, Colorado to face MLS Western Conference side Colorado Rapids (3-10-13, 19 pts.) in an MLS Match on Saturday, September 16th. The match kicks off in DSG Park at 7:30 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.

The New England Revolution II (14-5-8, 56 pts.) look to close out their regular season strong as they head to Matthews, North Carolina to face MLS NEXT Pro league leaders Crown Legacy FC (17-4-5, 60 pts). The match is on Sunday, September 17th at Mecklenburg County Sportsplex at Matthews and is set to kickoff at 5:00 p.m. All MLS, MLS NEXT Pro matches will be available through the new MLS Streaming Service on the Apple TV app.
