Pierre Cayet on recent Revolution II form and upcoming match against league leaders Crown Legacy FC

FOXBOROUGH, MA— The New England Revolution II (9W-5L-4D, 4SOW, 35 pts.) have continued to add to the win column as the team just won their 3rd consecutive game in a row for the 3rd time this season. With the team currently sitting in 2nd place in the Eastern Conference and 4th Place across MLS NEXT Pro, they look to move past the victory against Inter Miami CF II and are set to face league leaders Crown Legacy FC this Wednesday.

I spoke with Revolution defender #44 Pierre Cayet about the team’s recent form and how they look to prepare for their midweek clash against the league leaders.

For the Revolution II this season, Cayet currently is 2nd in minutes (1529), 4th in passing percentage (86.7%), T-6th on the team for goals (2), 1st in interceptions (46), and 1st in successful duels (68.9%). He has only missed one match this season due to a suspension. (Straight Red Card versus RBNY II).

Running through the team’s recent form. This season the team is undefeated 9-5-4 and is 4-0 in penalty shootouts after draws. The team also has won 3 games in a row for the third time this season.

Pierre stated that momentum was a key factor in the squad obtaining these results. “When the team is playing well that plays a big role in everything that you do to prepare for the weekend. Winning away gives us confidence and we come back home and considering the schedule, it’s easy to gain that confidence from the momentum we have going into the midweek match.”.

“Some weeks it’s also really difficult to deal with changes, whether it’s the first team guy’s coming back, the academy guys coming back from the Dallas Cup, it’s makes it challenging for us to have the same lineups at times, but we do a pretty good job at getting wins with the squads we have.”.

Building on the aspect of rotated squads, the Revolution II have fielded 3 different goalkeepers this season. With Jacob Jackson (6-1-0), Nico Campuzano (6-3-0) and Max Weinstein (2-1-0) all gaining minutes in the MLS NEXT Pro this season. Pierre stated, “I don’t think it’s that difficult to adapt based on the goalkeeper we have on the given day. Whether its Jacob, Nico, or Max.. they do a great job at understanding what the coach wants from us and adapting easily to the game. The key is just to make sure we are all on the same page whether we are advancing from the back or playing more direct. The three of them are really talented goalkeepers so at the end of the day it’s a matter of the coach’s decision and regardless we feel confident whoever is in the goal.”

Building on the team’s recent run of results, the squad on Sunday defeated Inter Miami CF II by a score of 2-0. Pierre built on this victory by applauding the team’s effort on both sides of the ball. “Lately at the back, we have done well denying crosses, shots, and clear chances. I think we did a really good job versus Miami… Our defense was strong, and the offensive unit was aggressive with high pitch pressure and holding the ball. Miami had a few balls that went in-behind that we defensively had to adapt to from the high pitch pressure and we dealt with it well, along with Jacob, and we looked really comfortable.”.

Building on the confidence, Pierre spoke on Jordan Adebayo-Smith and Peyton Miller, both of whom had standout performances versus Inter Miami. Adebayo-Smith, who is currently T-3rd in MLS NEXT Pro in goals had two key assists in the match, and Peyton Miller scored his first professional goal.

Pierre stated, “It’s massive to have a threat like Jordan offensively. He has 7 goals and could be having at least 12-13 goals and it’s something that we are trying to do. We know he can do better, but it’s nice to know that he has the potential to add more to this group. I know every game he’s going to have a ton of chances, which is beneficial to us.”

“When it comes to Peyton, he is still really young, so it just really shows how much growth he has had since he joined us, and I think that he has gotten a lot more confident and has really become himself. His dedication to get more around the box and become adapted to the ball… it’s great to have these talented individuals that play so well in the team unit and I’m very happy with these guys and the entire team as whole.”.

As the team looks to their next match, it’s a quick turnaround, as they now play league leaders Legacy Crown FC on Wednesday, July 12th at 11:00 a.m.

When discussing the importance of the match versus Legacy, Pierre stated, “We know it’s going to be a challenging game against Legacy. They have a lot of roster changes and solid owner that knows how to play and get to the top. Them coming is a great opportunity for us to match up with the best team in the league to see that we are really good and have the potential to win and especially at home, where we have won a lot. I’m confident and it’s going to be a great game and a great opportunity for us to see where we are and thinking about playoffs down the line and how this matchup is going to unfold.”

The New England Revolution II (9-5-4, 35 pts.) return to Foxborough, MA to face league leaders Crown Legacy FC (12-2-3, 41 pts) on Wednesday, July 12th at Gillette Stadium.
