Paper Tiger loses its national booking company due to pandemic

Margin Walker Presents, a national booking and promotion company that booked artists for Paper Tiger on the St. Mary’s Strip, said it was closing this week because of the pandemic, which has hit the live music industry hard.

The announcement was made Monday on its website and Twitter page.

Since 2016, the company has booked and promoted over 3,500 shows for alternative venues across Texas, like Paper Tiger, Mohawk in Austin and Dada in Dallas.

Among the artists the company has booked for Paper Tiger are Cuco and Cold Cave.

Paper Tiger responded to the news by tweeting, “We love you @MarginWalkerTX – thank you for everything.”

Margin Walker said the uncertainty and lack of resources resulted from the pandemic caused its closure. The company added it made painful staff cuts and took loans before making the decision to shut down.

“Being both passionate about what we do and also the largest independent promotion company in Texas has made this a very tough decision, but one that, essentially, made itself,” Margin Walker wrote in its statement.

“We want to personally thank you for supporting those artists and venues. Please continue to do so when things start to come back online, they’re going to need it more than ever.”

For those that have purchased tickets for any 2021 shows or 2020 rebooked shows, the company said to contact Eventbrite at eventbrite.com. For additional information on a specific show, email the venue directly.
