Owner Mark Davis Stresses Patience With Raiders New Regime
Mark Davis talks about expectations with new changes
The Las Vegas Raiders were expected to be a playoff contender in Josh Mcdaniels’ first season with the team. The Raiders went all-in with a major trade to land then-franchise quarterback Derek Carr an elite wide receiver with Davante Adams. Even with Josh Jacobs leading the league in rushing, the Raiders finished with a disappointing 6-11 record in 2022. Owner Mark Davis doesn’t appear worried about where the team is now.
Account to Vic Tafur with The Athletic, Davis said Raiders fans, who haven’t witnessed their team win a playoff game in two decades, couldn’t really give a fair assessment as to what is going on with the team because they’re not “there” and watching the games–even if they watch the “film” instead:
“Unfortunately, every time you change there is going to be changes that those people are going to see but you have to give them time to understand the changes,” Davis said. “I know that a lot of people can watch film and think that they know it all, but watching film doesn’t give you all the answers. You need to watch the games and be there to get the full picture.
“So, yeah, you gotta have patience.”
Another big change happened this offseason when McDaniels’, whose previous stint as an NFL head coach ended in Denver after winning 11 games in two seasons, decided the team was better off releasing Carr. The Raiders signed Jimmy Garoppolo in free agency.
