Families living in a Cibolo mobile home park were without working water for more than 24 hours this week, and a property owner blames her business partner for being behind on the bill.
Treva Carpenter, co-owner of Shady Meadows Mobile Home Park, said her business partner has not been paying the utility bill.
There has been an outstanding $22,000 water bill since 2023, according to Carpenter. She said the unpaid bills contributed to the water shutoff that affected longtime tenants like Julie Phillips.
Phillips said she has lived at the mobile home park, located off Farm-to-Market 78, for more than 20 years. She called Carpenter to report the water issue on Tuesday.
Carpenter asked the City of Cibolo what needed to be done to turn the water back on for her tenants, and an agreement was made to pay $8,050 by Wednesday. She also agreed to pay $6,000 for utilities by the end of the year.
Carpenter said she paid the city $8,150 out of her own pocket.
Phillips was glad the water came back on, but said she hopes it never happens again.
“I hope it stays on so we don’t have to move anywhere else, because we don’t have nothing saved up or anything like that to get out of here,” Phillips said.
Carpenter told KSAT some tenants have not been paying their rent. She said multiple renters are thousands of dollars behind on rent, which doesn’t help decrease the looming $22,000 unpaid utility bill.
Talks of a potential foreclosure sparked between tenants, but KSAT could not confirm that claim.
